Here at Home Living News, we’ve always had two primary goals – to help you make your home look as beautiful as possible, while helping you take better care of yourself and your family. So posts have always been balanced between tending to the home, and tending to yourself. While we’re all focused on buying the right gifts, and preparing the right meals and environment for Christmas time, we need to remember not to forget about how we’re feeling. Below are a few tips for combating holiday stress.
Family is all that matters
While collecting the whole family under one roof is a formula for laughter and tears, be mindful that family is more important than anything else. And if you’re mindful of this, remember that being anxious, wound up, or stressed out the whole time is a perfect formula for alienating your family and making your time together unpleasant. What’s worse is holiday stress could be more related to festive weight gain than overeating! If that’s not reason enough to put your feet up and let things slide, then we don’t know what is.
Work will fix itself!
The first telltale sign that you’re not on the go-slow you should be on is that you’re still checking your emails. If you find yourself doing this, remind yourself that you’re on holidays and that whatever is happening at work can fix itself without you, because it can fix itself without you. Slowly ease out of this strain. And, if you’re finding that your break is over just as you’re getting into the swing of actually relaxing, consider taking a few more days off.
Do relaxing activities
Certain activities relax the body and mind more than others. Taking slow walks. Reading more frequently. Listening to music softly with headphones. Sleeping more frequently and not having a schedule to keep to. Remember, this is the one time in the year you get to shut off, so seize the opportunity with both hands if you want to combat holiday stress.
