The world demands a lot of us. Between raising children, holding down a good job, dealing with your extended family and in-laws, as well as maintaining bills and your health, becoming overwhelmed and stressed is very easy. In our fast-paced world, stress is almost inevitable. This guide will teach you how to deal with stress, while also suggesting techniques to avoid the need for stress relief in the first place.

Ask yourself: Does this matter?

Stressful events are often very short-term nature. That event we treated as though it was a life and death matter just last week quickly becomes a distant memory. This isn’t because it has suddenly become unimportant, but rather because it wasn’t important to start with. The next time you’re very worried about a deadline, or an event in your life, ask yourself if it’s really that important. If it’s not, let it go, and worry about what really matters. Stress relief is about knowing what’s worth worrying about and what isn’t.

Reduce your load by learning to say no

Certain events cause stress. Other times, taking on too much causes stress. And why is it we carry too heavy a load? Not because life throws too much at us, but because we accept too many requests. Learn to say no, and learn to be comfortable with saying no. You may offend some people in the process, but this is stress relief 101 because it will save you the burden of being overstretched and overcommitted.

Use contemporary de-stressing techniques

If you’ve tried the two tips above and are still suffering from stress and feeling overwhelmed, you need to de-stress in any other manner available to you.

Some well-known methods of de-stressing are getting a massage and frequent workouts. Some people carry stress balls on them so as to release the pent up tension.

Taking a long, hot bath can also have wondrous effects on your stress levels, especially when coupled with bath oils intended to combat stress.
