Don’t know what to feed your kids? It may be time to get the children themselves involved in choosing food that they’ll actually eat. If you only have healthy ingredients in your home, their choices can only be nutritious, and if your child just wants to eat grapes for lunch once in a while, there’s really nothing wrong with that. For the rest of the time, try these meal ideas.

Sandwiches

These are really still one of the best options for lunchtime, but always use brown or wholewheat bread – no compromises here. Kids may not want salad on their sandwiches, but there are other nutritious options – try cheese, unsweetened peanut butter with honey, or chicken mayonnaise.

Omelettes

Breakfast is a great time for kids to get their protein, and with all of the forms in which you can prepare eggs, you can hardly go wrong. The best option is to try to get them to love omelettes or scrambled eggs: it’s amazing what nutritious items you can hide in there! If your kids don’t enjoy either of these options, try changing the consistency – getting them drier or soggier can make all the difference.

Burgers

This dinner option doesn’t have to be unhealthy: make your own burger patties with lean, organic beef, or go vegetarian.

Pies

For a meal that grown-ups will certainly enjoy, too, put healthy and tasty fillings into a dish and cover with a sheet of pastry, slices of potato, or crisped-up mash.

Smoothies

If your kids want a milkshake, give them one: in the form of a smoothie. Blend up a frozen banana, a cup of yoghurt, and a handful of your child’s favourite fruit for a healthy dessert or breakfast. Add nuts for a more satisfying flavor and extra nutritional value.
