Making a vision board is about putting all your dreams and wishes, your vision for yourself and your future, on paper. Besides being a fun DIY activity involving finding inspirational images, drawing, painting, and decorating, you can get really creative with your vision board and make it as elaborate as you like. The idea is that we create our own futures through the power of our thoughts, as expressed by your vision board. Even if you don’t believe that, though, having a visual representation of where you would like to be in life will help keep you motivated in attaining your goals.

What is your vision?

One of the best things about making a vision board is that before you get started you’ll need to have a clear vision of what you would like your future to look like. Does it involve children? A new relationship? A new career? No goal or dream is too big or too small to put on your vision board. So before you get started, make a list of everything you want out of life. You may end up learning quite a bit about yourself.

What you’ll need

Before getting started, make sure you have a poster board big enough to express all your wishes. Arts and crafts shops have a wide range of colours, designs and finishes to choose from, so let your imagination run wild. Then get hold of a big stack of magazines. If you don’t have enough lying around, ask a friend to donate some to your project, or make a trip to the library and ask if they have any magazines that are no longer in use. You could always search for images online, too. Google Images and Flickr are good places to get started. Also get hold of some good paper glue, and other bits and pieces like glitter glue, coloured pens, or even paints.

Have fun

Finally, have fun. While you look for the right images for you, remember what your goals are, and stay positive. There is no right or wrong way to make a vision board, as long as it expresses your deepest desires.
