The Emmys might be awards for the best of what’s on TV, but as at every awards show, there’s a focus on the fashion, too. This year the Emmys didn’t disappoint in providing plenty to look at in the form of fabulous fashion. Read on to find out about the key trends, as set by the stars.
Getting bolder
The colours of most of the dresses at the Emmys were bold and vibrant, with purples, reds, and dark blues making a strong statement. Another way to make your presence known? Wear white, as Kim Kardashian did. She accessorised the outfit with plenty of diamonds, but opinions are divided on whether the look worked.
Back in black
What would any awards show be without the classic black evening gowns? This year’s favourites were worn by Eva Longoria and Tina Fey. Heidi Klum also chose black, but her dress was shorter than usual.
Looking over their shoulders
Dress shapes were elegant and curvy, with asymmetrical shoulders and Grecian styles proving to be favourites. Glee star Jane Lynch wore this look with style.
For the boys
The men of the awards were spotted in the most classic of evening attire, with many of them opting to wear bow ties: host Jimmy Fallon was among them. Some embraced the blue trend that’s hot right now, and Anna Paquin’s new husband Stephen Moyer gave his look a modern twist with a skinny tie.
And the winners are…
Oh, in case you’re wondering who walked away with the evening’s actual awards, here’s what you need to know. Mad Men took home the top prize for a drama series for the third year running, while ABC’s Modern Family won the award for best comedy series. Glee won three of the awards for which it was nominated, and many critics say that it’s also the show whose stars demonstrated the best style on the night of the awards ceremony.
