Britney Spears, princess of pop, will soon be launching a new clothing line targeting schoolgirls. Just like Madonna, whose chameleon-like ability to transform herself Britney shares, Britney is joining the growing club of celebrities who turn designer, which includes J Lo, Hilary Duff, Jessica Simpson, Elizabeth Hurley and Elle Macpherson – to name just a few. Britney is designing the new clothing line for the Iconix Brand Group’s Candie’s range, and it will be called ‘Britney for Candie’s’.

The rise and fall of Britney

Britney Spears rocketed to fame 10 years ago, when she was just a teenager herself, with hits including ‘Baby One More Time’. In 2001 she made a return with ‘Oops I did it Again’, but by 2004, she was making headlines with scandals that threatened her squeaky clean image.

The press couldn’t get enough of Britney, with treatment for addiction, losing custody of her children, and inexplicably shaving her head giving journalists a lot to write about. But now Britney’s back doing it again, and hoping to make it into the spotlight for the right reasons, this time.

Britney for Candie’s

Britney has been the face of Candie’s for three years, so she’s very well acquainted with the brand. Her new clothing line for juniors is inspired by her favourite films and movies, and is a mixture of day and evening looks. Britney for Candie’s will include both jeans and little black dresses, and a range of accessories to go with them.

Designed by me

Britney told Reuters that ‘Designing was a really fun, new way for me to express my creativity and I really wanted to create something by me for my fans.’ A print and TV advertising campaign for Britney for Candie’s has the tagline: ‘Designed by me for you!’

The new clothing line will, for now, only be available in US store Kohl’s, from 1 July.
