Make a milkshake – then make it even better

Making interesting milkshakes that you, your friends, or your kids will love is easy – and they taste even better than the kind you’d get in restaurants and takeaways. Just start off with a basic mix of three cups of vanilla ice cream with one cup of milk per milkshake, and add in the ingredients that you like best when you mix up the shake in your blender. If you want to stick with vanilla, just add a teaspoon of vanilla essence and a teaspoon of sugar.

Old fashioned chocolate

For the one that everyone loves, just add four spoons of chocolate syrup or sauce to the mixture. Remember that if you use melted chocolate, the chocolate will harden and you’ll be left with chocolate chips rather than a generally chocolatey flavour – but that’s good too!

Chocolate peanut butter

For this American favourite, stick to two spoons of chocolate syrup, and add in a spoon of peanut butter – or more, if you like the taste and want even more protein from your shake.

Crush up your favourite biscuits and add them to the mixture. It’s a good idea to use a chocolate-coated biscuit if you like your crunchy bits crunchy, rather than soggy.

Strawberry and banana fruity shake

Bananas form the base of the milkshake’s healthier alternative, the smoothie, but they make a great addition to any milkshake, too. For this one, blend a large chopped banana and four chopped strawberries into your milkshake.

If you want a lower-fat version of the milkshakes listed above, make a milkshake with low-fat milk and a little less ice-cream. A better idea, though, is to really indulge only once in a while – it’s a healthy choice, and one that’ll keep you really enjoying the treat when you do have one.
