Food writer Tana Ramsay, wife of the infamous Gordon Ramsay, admitted to Times Online that her dinners are always ‘a bit haphazard’. She prefers her home to be her sanctuary, and favours informal dining with good friends. According to Tana Ramsay, a good dinner should be relaxed. It’s all about being with friends and loved ones, she says.
Low-maintenance cooking
Tana Ramsay likes to cook low-maintenance food. While she does occasionally cook her husband’s recipes, she usually makes a simplified version. And her favourite of all his recipes? Those from his Cookalong series. She and Gordon like to disappear to their home in the country on weekends, and while they both love good food, they prefer to cook meals that don’t require much thinking.

Tana likes cooking stuffed mushrooms, which she fills with herbs from her garden. These are done in about twenty minutes, giving her time to barbecue steaks that have been left in a marinade all day. This she will serve with a crunchy green salad, and possibly some roast potatoes. ‘I like to cook anything that’s low maintenance. You can have a glass of wine and start chatting and forget about things,’ Tana says. Dessert would be as easy as (believe it or not) a store-cupboard favourite like Eton Mess, or her own blackberry ice cream.
Weekends in the garden
On the weekend, Tana prefers to eat outdoors in the garden, and the children will stay up a bit later, ‘and be running around like crazy’.
Kitchen Secrets
Tana’s book, Tana’s Kitchen Secrets, is full of easy, accessible recipes that just about anyone can make at home. Her recipes are family-oriented, and each one comes with a ‘kitchen secret’ or tip – how to make the perfect roast vegetables, for example. The book is published by Mitchell Beazley.
