A themed party can be the best way to get people into the mood for having fun and not taking the evening too seriously. Throwing a themed party might take a little more effort, but it’ll probably be worth it, and takes a little of the pressure off of you to throw ‘the perfect party’. The first step is choosing a great theme, then all you have to do is send out the invitations and get your guests and venue looking right.
Take it easy
Don’t choose a theme that’s it impossible for anyone to dress to. Choose something that everyone can dress up to, and that leaves plenty of options open – some people will just want to dress with some inspiration from the theme, while others will want to go all out. Parties themed according to eras are often the easiest and most fun – try the eighties for a really over-the-top look with lots of sparkle.
Don’t leave it to the guests

You can’t expect your guests to put lots of effort into their dress-up outfits if you don’t continue the theme. It’s really helpful to have a few items lying around as part of the décor that underdressed guests can add to their outfit – a few cheap cowboy hats add instant fun to a Western theme. You’ll be amazed at how much more enthusiastic feels about getting dressed up once they see how great everyone else looks.
Keep it themed
Apart from making sure that you have a great themed outfit planned, continue the theme to your décor and food and drinks. You don’t have to get too complicated here – just sticking to a colour that works with your theme adds a festive touch to the party. Once you’ve got everything together, it’s time to just enjoy your party – and watch your guests enjoy it, too.
