Wearing a baggy long-sleeved top and chic black tights and stilettos, Nicole Richie jetted into London to launch her new fashion line at Selfridges. Winter Kate looks to embrace the styles that Richie loves most, and is also available in stores such as Bloomingdales in New York and Galleries Lafayette in Paris. Most sources agree that Nicole looks better and healthier than ever – looks like engagement, motherhood, and achievement in the fashion world have been good for her.
All about Nicole
Winter Kate, Nicole’s latest fashion line, is the latest in a number of positive developments in the heiress, reality TV star and designer’s life. Not only has her other label, House of Harlow 1960, enjoyed success, but she’s also engaged (with a gorgeous ring by all accounts) to long-time love Joel Madden, and has a daughter, Harlow, and a son, Sparrow. It seems that she’s making everyone who once called her talentless or ‘famous for being famous’ eat their words.
Nicole’s style
Nicole Richie says that she tends to wear jeans most of the time – they-re her wardrobe staple – and she thinks that the kind of pieces featured in the Winter Kate collection are ideal for adding interest to a combinations of a classic white t-shirt and jeans. The textures and colours of the fashion line certainly look like they’re bold and interesting enough to do just that – and perhaps some House of Harlow 1960 accessories would be just what the outfit would need to finish it off.

Richie’s latest fashion line features tops, vests, and – a personal favourite, bed jackets, presumably not just for bed. The designer herself has been seen in a number of the collection’s pieces both while out on the town and at the launches of the range. The collection’s pieces generally have a very feminine feel, but one of the items receiving the most positive attention is the Harlow Leather Jacket, a black biker jacket that’s both sleek and perfect for the grungy look that’s big for this winter.
Third time lucky
In addition to House of Harlow 1960, Richie also has a maternity line, Nicole for a Pea in the Pod, making Winter Kate her third fashion line. She’s been working on it since early 2009, and the 37-piece collection incorporates the cool boho style that she’s displayed a love of in her clothing and in her personal style. The latest line has more of a vintage look to it, and makes use of eclectic fabrics. The name comes from her daughter – ‘Winter’ and ‘Kate’ are her middle names.
What’s next for Nicole?

Nicole seems to have the fashion market right where she wants it, so where to now? Perhaps the star will release the perfume that she was rumoured to be working on ages ago, or perhaps she’ll take some time off to be with the kids – she launched Winter Kate just months after giving birth. On the other hand, she might get right back to designing… If it’s working for her, why not?
