Ok buddy, so you’re in your own place now and the first thing to realise is that this is your home. This will be where you crash after a hard day’s work. This will be where your mates will come to watch the game or have some pre-party warm-up drinks. This will be where you’ll be bringing home your girlfriend. So it is important, especially in keeping friends and women interested in coming around to visit, to get the bachelor pad thing right. With a little money, knowing who you are and what you like, and some creativity thrown into the mix, you’ll be winning popularity contests all over the place. And you’ll love living there in comfort and solitude.
What the pad says about you
First thing to remember when designing your ‘love shack’, your ‘cave’, your ‘real man’s abode’, is that it actually says a lot about you, so you want to have fun reflecting your character. Trust your tastes, keep it simple, keep it functional and keep it manly, please. You are a bachelor, you live in a bachelor apartment, your home. Your place should never look like a décor showroom – live in it. You should feel comfortable, your friends should feel comfortable because they recognise your personality all over – and they’ll dig it. And very important, any prospective girlfriend you bring there should feel comfortable while she quietly susses you out. Here are some sure-fire interior ideas to set you on the right path.
Bachelor pad must-haves
The lounge is generally the starting point. Here, there should be a big comfortable couch, soft and spacious. Good for watching TV, having conversations or just dozing off on. This is a central piece to work the rest of your interior around. To compliment that, a coffee table, naturally. Where else will your date put her glass of red wine? A decent television set, DVD machine and stereo system is expensive, like the couch, but should be viewed as a good investment. It makes your bachelor pad fun to be in. Some games in a nearby cabinet will act in your favour when conversation tends to still a bit.

There must be stuff to do. For the mates, table football is a winner, or even a pool table or dart board. For atmosphere, you’ll want some well placed plants – not plastic ones, live ones. This shows you are responsible and somewhat ‘green conscious’. Some well placed lighting scattered around can make even the emptiest place seem romantic and stylish. Picture frames of family and friends, travels and pets, as well as carefully selected art pieces can fill up blank spaces, and fill up the blanks someone might have in assessing your personality – these will reflect the things you hold dear, what you find important and inspiring. Keep it sincere. Don’t fake anything. People can tell.
Remember, art is a great investment. Why not start collecting? It also sets you apart from others as a suave, worldly guy who knows who he is. Then a big comfy bed, preferably a queen size. Big enough for two but not pompous and huge. Bookshelves and magazine racks are great, just be selective about what you choose to display.
Other cool stuff

Gadgets are great to have. There is so much cool stuff out there to make your bachelor pad awesome. Blenders for fresh smoothies – alpha males are healthy. Backwards clocks – for a bit of quirkiness. Ninja star coat hangers. Can crushers. Recliners. But no office gadgets. This is not your office.
The rest is up to you. Have fun with it. In your kingdom, you are king, and this is your chamber.
