Camping takes some initial preparation if you want your trip to be a success, but festival camping presents some particular challenges all of its own, not least the limited space available! The key to keeping things fun and simple at the festival of your choice is planning ahead, and that means making some good choices about what you take along, not least your festival tent. Find out all that you need to know about festival tents and festival camping before making your investment and getting out into the great outdoors for a wild weekend.
Festival camping
Music festivals are all about having fun, whether it’s fun in the sun or the kind that ends with you getting messy in the mud. Before your big weekend of music, though, you’ll need to do some good planning. You’ll need to make sure that you have all of the camping supplies you might need for the time you’re at the festival, but by far the most important thing to consider is your choice of festival tent – if you make the right choice now, you’re sure to enjoy plenty of good times with this tent for many years and festivals to come.
Size matters

When choosing your tent, remember that the size guidelines provided by tent manufacturers are seldom going to allow a comfortable fit – these guidelines are based on the number of (very narrow) camping mattresses that can fit into the tent, not how many actual people can sleep comfortable inside it! A good guideline is to take a tent that allows you one and a half ‘men’ worth of space for each actual person: an eight-man tent, for example, is a good size for six people, and very comfortable for four.
Pitching up
An important factor to take into account when choosing your festival tent is how many people it takes to pitch the tent – it may involve more effort than you bargained for, which can put a damper on your festival camping experience. Ask whoever’s selling you the tent to tell you a bit about this, as well as how large an area the tent will cover when pitched, and whether you should be considering a pop-up tent – often the easiest and best option!

Once you’ve got the right tent for your festival camping experience, you’ll be able to get packing. Remember that one of the important principles of camping is packing light, and so you should only take the essentials – you’ll have far more fun without all of those extras holding you back.
Camping out
Of course, once you’ve got your festival tent you’re not limited to using it just at festivals – festival tents will also work well anytime you want to experience the great outdoors. If you’ve chosen the right tent for you and for the harsh conditions that camping can involve, you can’t go wrong: camping, of any kind, will be easier and more fun than you’d ever previously imagined possible.
