When every day feels the same as every other, with no hope of change or inspiration, you can end up feeling that your life is going nowhere fast. Admitting that you’re bored to death or stuck in a rut is the first step to bringing newness into your life. From there you can make a conscious decision to step out of it and reinvigorate your life. Read on for a number of tips that can help you move swiftly on.
Some telltale signs
Look out for the following signs if you feel that you’re stuck in a rut: you’re unable to decide on things, you’re unsure of your next steps, you’re not sleeping well, you’re gaining weight, your energy levels have plummeted and the results you’ve been seeking to date are no longer important to you. Worst still, you’ve stopped dreaming about what’s possible because it’s hard enough to be where you are at the moment.
What to do about it
Take the pressure off yourself by understanding that this is a phase which is bound to pass. Go for a walk in nature, get out for a rollerblading session or go for a swim. By taking up any form of exercise, your body will start releasing natural endorphins which will help change come faster.
Start socialising, even if this is the last thing you feel like doing (much like exercise). Develop relationships with people who positively influence your life and keep good company. Quit self-destructive habits like overdosing on sugars and carbohydrates, alcohol or other stimulants.
Change your routine so as to get yourself out of your pattern of bad habits. Take small steps towards improving your life every day rather than wait for a miracle event to happen which you hope will break you out of your rut.
Points to ponder
Take personal responsibility for yourself and empower yourself by realising that you have everything you need to make the change. Rather look inwardly than rely on external measures of success.
Practice yoga or meditation for half an hour a day. Use this time to give yourself a break from your normal pattern of thoughts. Do this consistently and you’ll start to see results, however small they may be at first.
Get in touch with your feelings every day. Try and be objective as you identify how you respond to different situations. How do you feel when you’re not aligned? Consider if your actions are in keeping with your inner desires and your purpose.
Wellbeing
The more in touch you are with your feelings and your physical responses, the quicker you’ll be able to see the signs that you’re becoming stuck in a rut. By becoming more conscious, things will start to look different and new again. Osho advises that it’s not necessarily about changing situations: ‘Existence is available for those who are available to existence.’
He adds that ‘then there is no boredom. Life is infinite delight.’
