Keeping your cupboards tidy is a skill on its own. This is an even bigger challenge if you have limited space. When you rush to get ready in the morning, it is not uncommon to leave the house with a trail of clothing scattered across the floor while you hurry to get to where you need to be. This can obviously be avoided if you pick your outfits the night before, but you can also arrange your clothing so that it is accessible and visible when you open your cupboard.

How to organise your clothes

You can organise your clothes in various ways to suit your lifestyle. If you tend to be undecided each morning on what to wear then it might be best to separate fold separate piles of each item, grouping tops, trousers, skirts and jackets together, and then colour coordinate each pile. If you have an active lifestyle then you may want to organise your wardrobe according to function. In other words, your folded piles can be separated according to what you wear them for example, sports clothes, daily wear, formal outfits and sleep clothes.

Tips on extending your space

If you have limited space, then it is really important to buy tools that will optimise the space you have. Add extra shelves so that your clothes are not folded into one big pile or add hooks to the inner side of each door of your cupboard to create extra space. A nifty tool is a closet doubler, which is an extended rod which you can latch onto your existing one so that you can hang more clothing on it without taking up more space.

The best way to clean any closet is to give away what you no longer use. If it no longer fits, if it’s out of date or if you haven’t worn it in years, then it is time to pass it on to someone else.
