Highs and lows are a fact of life. Unfortunately, we can’t change the fact that everything doesn’t always run smoothly. What we can change is how we choose to react to certain circumstances; our own attitude and ability to handle negative events in our lives may be well make the difference between sinking and swimming when the going gets tough. No one ever said you have to be happy all the time, but there is some value in being able to work through the trials of life and turn your lows into highs.

Support, support, support

Everyone should have a support system in place – a network of people who will be there for you when you need them, whether by picking your kids up from school if you’re stuck at work or just simply being around for a chat when you need them.

The power of positive thought

When facing a bad situation it can be difficult to imagine that something positive will come from the experience, but you have to remind yourself that there are always positives.

By ending a relationship, for example, you may be opening yourself up to new and better relationships while losing a job may open you to a world of possibility, giving you a chance to explore new career options and follow your dreams.

People with a positive outlook tend to outlive those who tend to be more negative. The best way to be able to think positively yourself is to surround yourself with positive people who will remind you when times are hard that something better lies ahead.

You’ve got to have faith

Believe in yourself above all else. Know that unhappiness is temporary and that you have the power to turn even the toughest situation around. Success is not measured by falls, but by how we pick ourselves up and keep going on.
