Studies have shown that two-thirds of divorces are initiated by wives; surely this goes to show that more often than not it is the wife who needs to be kept happy? There is even a website wholly dedicated to this cause where men are guided on gift purchases for their wives and given a space to submit concerns on which they can receive advice. A novel idea indeed, but one does perhaps need to look below the surface and decide: is the success of a marriage and a happy life really dependent on the happiness of one person?
More on the wife
It is widely accepted that women are in fact more in tune with their emotions than men are and woman’s intuition is undeniably real. Men tend to operate on logic, things that can easily be explained, while women base more decisions on emotion and feelings that are sometimes difficult to verbalize. Perhaps this is what makes women more likely to be unhappy without being able to explain why and why keeping your wife happy matters.
And the husband
The next question, to be fair, is should the husband sacrifice his happiness for his wife’s? Certainly not! The easiest way to make someone else happy is to first be happy with you. If you love yourself and treat yourself with respect doing it for your partner is that much easier. Maybe our thinking should be turned around to ‘Happy life, happy wife’?
The conclusion
While the adage has some truth to it a relationship is about a lot more than one person’s happiness. No amount of buying gifts will change concrete issues. Relationships involve give and take; both parties need to be equally taken care of.
As much as a happy wife could assist in maintaining a happy life, your happiness begins with you.
