Ban on selling eggs may be lifted to keep treatments for infertility safe

As Britain faces what’s been called a ‘fertility crisis’ the process and payment for egg donation is under review to keep it attractive to egg donors. Egg donors are not paid for their eggs, as this would constitute selling human tissue, but are compensated for their time and efforts. The current £250 compensation, however, seems to not be enough, as too few eggs are available and infertile couples look further afield to treatments for infertility that often aren’t safe. (more…)
