So what do vegans eat, then?

When the UN recently announced that going vegan could save the planet, it sparked worldwide conversation on vegetarianism and veganism. Animal products (including cheese, eggs and meat) cause more damage to the environment than emissions from cars. According to the University of Chicago, going vegan is 50 per cent more effective in reducing your greenhouse emissions than switching to a hybrid car. Many of us can’t imagine life without fish and chips and chicken tikka masala. So what do vegans eat, then? (more…)

A vegan diet recommended by the UN

The UN is urging the world to opt for a vegan diet to help to combat global warming and environmental damage. Eating less meat and dairy, according to the UN, is absolutely vital to combat climate change. Agriculture, especially meat and dairy farming, accounts for 70 per cent of global fresh water use, 38 per cent of total land use, and a substantial 19 per cent of the planet’s greenhouse emissions. The healthy vegetarian: fact or fiction?

In the past, myths about vegetarianism have abounded, vegetarians were thought to be pale and sickly, limited to a diet of bland vegetables and strange grains. But now a new myth is surfacing; the myth of the healthy vegetarian. Studies, including the massive 25-year Oxford Vegetarian Study in the UK, are suggesting vegetarianism may be a good option for the health conscious. Lowered risks of cancer, lower levels of bad cholesterol, and a longer lifespan are just some of the benefits offered by a vegetarian diet. (more…)
