John Lennon’s toilet recently sold for a surprising sum at auction. Would it fit in in your bathroom?

Perhaps the ultimate dream for a Beatles fan is to have a piece of the band’s memorabilia – even if it is a little odd, like having John Lennon’s toilet in your bathroom. The porcelain toilet was used by Lennon between 1969 and 1972 in his Berkshire home, and was stored in the garden shed of a builder for the past forty years.

Beatle Week Festival

The porcelain potty was sold on auction at Liverpool’s 33rd annual Beatle Week Festival. Also for sale were a black and white picture of the singer outside his family home, a harmonica once owned by Julian Lennon, and a rare copy of the 1968 recording ‘Two Virgins’. Recorded by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, the record comes in a sleeve that features full frontal nudity on the front and back covers – it had to be sold in a brown paper wrapper when first released, and could only be purchased by order from the record label.

Money down the toilet?

Organiser Stephen Bailey said that ‘The toilet might be worth something, and it might not, but it is certainly one of the more unusual items we’ve sold.’ As it turned out, it was worth something – the loo was expected to collect around £1,000, but bids surpassed all expectations to reach a £9,500 selling price. After the auction, Bailey said ‘I don’t think I’d be personally using it in the future if I’d paid 9,500 pounds for it.’

Ornate

The white and blue porcelain toilet was described as ‘ornate’ and ‘really nice looking’. If you’re looking to add something new to your bathroom but plan to do it a little more simply and a little less expensively, look here for some appealing options.

Water is of paramount importance to our very existence. It is used in almost every sphere of life in one form or the other. In our homes we generally have water tanks to fulfill our daily requirement of water. It is important that we use uncontaminated water so as to ensure that we don’t get ourselves infected with the many diseases associated with it. Timely management will not only prevent undesired pitfalls but will also save a substantial portion of your budget, as tank repairs are quite expensive.

The fresh water tank holds tap water that is used for drinking, bathing, cleaning dishes and for flushing the toilet. It is advisable that you install a water filter which is a relatively cost effective solution to maintain clean and healthy water. Something like the BRITA Edition Glass Water Filter Jug will also ensure that you have crisp, clean and refreshing drinking water. A common problem observed during the winter is that it tends to have a high proportion of sulfur or calcium. It ends up clogging the pipes and produces a stinky smell. Empty and clean the tank at the end of every season. If possible place it near a heated area to prevent it from freezing during the winter.

The septic tank that holds the solid and liquid waste should be cleaned and emptied on a regular basis. There are many products available in the market that will assist you in decomposing the waste material and thereby reducing foul odours. You should also abstain from each and every matter in the drain. Make sure that the drain valve remains closed until it is full. It will make it convenient to flush everything out.

When dealing with grey water tanks, the sink for all the wastewater in the RV except the toilet, empty it before leaving the campground each time. Flush it regularly to keep it bacteria free. You can also try using chemicals, which is a good option to check bacteria.

While draining, it is advisable to drain the black one first followed by the grey. This way the black water is thoroughly flushed and even rinses your sewer hose. You can also use rinse wand that will go through your toilet and into your black water tank.

Another important suggestion is to use water softeners that will ensure that solid materials don’t clamp on the sides of the tank walls. It consequently will also ensure the longevity of your water tanks.

Summer is in full force, as is the festival season, camping, hiking, and all sorts of other outdoor activities. Of course being so close to nature means forgoing certain comforts offered by civilization. For many people the comfort they miss most is a clean, sanitary and porcelain toilet.

At any festival, whatever mobile toilets are available quickly degenerate into disgusting and nearly unusable conditions after only a few days of continuous use. If using the mobile toilets provided is out of the question, then the next option is to head for the woods, but even here bugs, poison ivy, stinging nettle, and a general lack of comfort make this an unwelcome choice. Introducing the Shit Box portable lavatory from the Brown Corporation, which makes going to the bathroom in the wild nearly as comfortable, clean and sanitary as back home.

Although it might look a little basic, the Shit Box is actually quite cleverly designed and comes with many innovative features. For starters, its cardboard material means that it is incredibly lightweight and can easily be added to camping gear, such as your heavy tent and air mattress, without adding any excess burden. Secondly, the Box can be folded up for more manageable transportation, and lastly, it is re-usable. Now the concept of a re-usable, portable cardboard box toilet might at first seem revolting and like a bad idea. However, the Shit Box comes with customised plastic poo bags that capture any waste, allowing the Box itself to stay clean and be used multiple times. And perhaps the coolest feature is that whenever the Box is not being used a toilet, it doubles as a perfectly workable seat, in case your legs get tired from walking. Why bother purchasing the Amazonas Brasil Swinging Chair or the Outwell Arm Chair deluxe, when you can simply rest on your new Shit Box. With all these useful features, the Shit Box practically sells itself, and easily justifies its £15.67 price tag.
