How to cope with situational stress

Stress levels rise and fall during an average day. Stress is an inevitability when one is faced with uncertain events, uncommon situations or social interactions. When you’re doing something familiar, or involved with something you enjoy, your stress levels will typically fall again. Signs of situational stress include trembling, a racing heart, sweating, a dry mouth, dizziness, feeling faint, feeling paralysed and unable to function or feelings of needing to run away or act aggressively. Causes and symptoms of adrenal burnout

The adrenal glands help the body respond to stress but if they become depleted, the system can no longer handle stress. The main symptom of adrenal burnout is a feeling of constant fatigue, which doesn’t seem to lift even when one has adequate sleep. Low blood pressure, depression, irritability and a craving for sweet foods are other symptoms. An accumulation of toxic emotions, feelings of hopelessness, anxiety, infections and poor digestion can follow when a body is impaired by low energy levels. (more…)

What is Body Stress Release?

Body Stress Release is an alternative health profession that was originally developed by Ewald and Gail Meggersee. The husband and wife team studied chiropractic in the USA before setting up a practice in South Africa in 1981. The BSR practice concerns itself with helping the body to heal itself by releasing locked in tension or stress. Lines of tension are identified by pressure tests where the body acts as a biofeedback mechanism. This tension is then released by precise and specifically directed pressure. (more…)

Why it’s good to have a cry

Letting it all out can be cleansing for the soul and will make you feel much better even if your situation has not changed. According to the Stress Management Society, stress is defined as ‘a situation where demands on a person exceed that person’s ability to cope’. If you’ve had that feeling, you’re not alone. The UK Health and Safety Executive found that employers lose 105 million working days a year due to stress among employees. Stress can cause a range of negative physical and emotional responses, including headaches, muscular pain and anxiety. While it’s very hard – if not impossible – to avoid stress altogether, there are some simple things you can do to make coping with it easier. (more…)

How to stay positive in negative situations

We live in a stressful era and it is not unusual to face negative situations on a daily basis. Someone might offend you or something you have worked hard at may be rejected. When we find ourselves in these situations, it becomes hard to stay positive, but we are always judged according to our communications and responses so it is best to keep a positive attitude despite whatever comes your way. Although we are naturally inclined to respond negatively in bad situations, maintaining a positive attitude is a choice and thus a valuable skill to learn. (more…)

Tories are anxious, liberals relaxed

Scientists have found a link between brain structure and political views. People with right wing views have larger areas in the brain concerned with fear and anxiety, it seems, while liberals tend to be more relaxed. These findings from University College London could explain why liberals and conservatives seldom see eye to eye and often have irreconcilable views on politics and other subjects. (more…)

And not the usual ‘colleague conflicts’ rough days, but the type where you’re in the doldrums because your trust has been violated, a friendship ruined, a relationship ended or a loved one passing on. It’s very easy to wallow in the negative emotions for longer than its healthy, and as best you can, you should still search for moments to smile in.
