I did it again! I walked into the kitchen and once there had absolutely no idea what I was there for – I’m sure there should be a word for that. This was made particularly annoying by the fact that I wasn’t hungry and had interrupted one of the many things I had to get done that day to go and do/get this thing which I’d forgotten. I decided I needed to boost my brain power – immediately. Here’s what I’m going to eat next time I find myself in the kitchen wondering exactly what it is I’m doing there – brain food. (more…)

The good kind of fat: omega-3 fatty acids

If you need an excuse to eat salmon, look no further. Research on omega-3 fatty acids (abundant in fatty fish like salmon) shows that they’re called ‘essential’ fats for a reason. These good fats make you smart, keep your heart healthy, and even help with the ageing process. While the bad kind of fat – saturated fat – found in meat and dairy should be avoided, the body can’t live without omega-3 fatty acids. The brain, for example, is about two-thirds fat. But not just any kind of fat.
