He’s given the nation’s school dinners a makeover, and now Jamie Oliver is getting to work on another problem area of food. The show will see the celebrity chef showing Britons – and the rest of the world – how to replace fast food with home-cooked meals that are just as tasty, but more nutritious, and even quicker. Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has criticised Jamie Oliver’s school lunches campaign, saying that  it hasn’t been effective. Over the past few years, Jamie Oliver’s fans have watched him campaigning vigorously for healthier school menu options in Britain, and what he’s had to say about what kids are eating has certainly seemed to make a lot of sense, but Lansley sees things differently. French chef Raymond Blanc, OBE, took on Jamie Oliver in a celebrity cook-off at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show preview on Monday. Spatulas wielded, the chefs battled to produce the tastiest food for passersby at the show’s pre-opening event. All of the veggies used in the cook-off were grown in the Royal Chelsea Hospital vegetable garden, which will be on display, alongside a host of other treats for the avid gardener, from 25-29 May 2010. Chef Jamie Oliver has announced he is planning to spend millions of his own money on a 10-year plan to improve meals in UK primary schools, as well as educate children and parents on healthy eating. Oliver said that, after learning that the UK is the most unhealthy country in Europe, with a generation of kids expected to have a shorter lifespan than their parents, he is determined to improve the situation – even if it means money out of his pocket. Well, the naked chef, Jamie Oliver, is at it again. He’s bitten off more than he can chew, though. He’s cooked up too much of a storm to handle and actually cried in frustration over his latest serving, a show about helping Americans to eat right.
