Orthorexia: when healthy eating gets out of hand

We all try to make healthier eating choices. Cutting down on animal products is good for our bodies, and good for the planet, as is choosing to eat organic whenever possible. But believe it or not, healthy eating can go too far. Dubbed the ‘new anorexia’, orthorexia is an eating disorder where sufferers focus on ‘pure food’, to the detriment of their jobs, families and relationships. (more…)

Male mannequins taking the skinny trend too far

Weight issues among women have always been a controversial topic, but this time the pressure falls on men. The arrival of the all new super skinny male mannequin by the British mannequin company Rootstein has prompted an outcry from many activist organisations against eating disorders. The set of mannequins entitled ‘The Young and the Restless’ features mannequins supposedly modelled on teenage boys, having a waist of 27 inches, which is 11 inches smaller than the average British man. Activists have claimed that this depicts an unrealistic body image for men. (more…)
