Everyone loves a sweet after-dinner treat now and then, and nothing hits the spot quite like chocolate. This easy recipe for chocolate cake is made from ingredients that you’re likely to have in your kitchen, and the best part is how quick and easy it is – just whip it up in a mug and ‘bake’ it in the microwave. If you don’t believe that it can taste as good as something from the oven, just try it out to prove yourself wrong.
What you need
All you need for this recipe for chocolate cake are some pretty run-of-the-mill baking ingredients. Gather together four tablespoons of cake flour, four tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoons of cocoa, an egg, and three tablespoons each of milk and oil. Lastly, you’ll need a mug – that’s your mixing bowl and your cake tin in one.
How to do it

First, combine the dry ingredients in the mug, then add the egg and mix. Now, pour in the oil and milk and combine all of the ingredients well. Now it’s ready for the microwave: put it in and cook on high heat for three minutes. The cake will rise, just like in the oven, and when you take it out at the end of the cooking process you’ll want to make sure it’s stopped rising and has ‘set’ in the mug before you tip it out onto a plate or enjoy it as it is.
Variations
To make the recipe a little more decadent, add chocolate chips – milk, white, or dark chocolate. To turn it into a tasty dessert, serve it with ice-cream and chocolate sauce. For a different flavour, just try adding some almond or vanilla essence, or spice things up with chilli. Enjoy it your way – it’s that easy.
