Making Room for the Microwave

The microwave was introduced in the mid 1950s and ever since, it has become an indispensable kitchen appliance. The microwave is an appliance that makes cooking and serving dishes simple and easy. People who are always in a hurry and have no time to prepare and cook their meals will find the microwave a blessing in their lives. All they have to do is to pop their meal into the microwave and presto! It is ready for them in a matter of minutes. The earlier models were all counter top models. Today, you can get them mounted over your ranges or custom built cabinets.

Where you place your microwave depends upon each individual’s preference and convenience. Some like to have it placed over their kitchen counters or on islands while some like to place them in cabinets. Freestanding microwaves, like the Sharp R86STM, can fortunately be placed anywhere the owner chooses. Microwaves need to be placed strategically so that even kids can have access to them when they want to heat up a meal. What is important is to provide plenty of ventilation for the microwave.

Microwaves can be placed under the counter also especially if there is limited counter space. Keeping them below counters is risky especially in homes where there are small children, old people and toddlers. Keep them out of reach of kids and toddlers as they can hurt themselves by touching the oven when it is switched on. Old people will find it difficult to bend to access the microwave. Have the microwave placed in an ideal location so everyone can access it easily.
