If all that you think of when you imagine Scottish food is haggis, that’s set to change. Scotland’s tourism minister is following up last year’s Scottish year of homecoming with a full year that celebrates the best that Scotland has to offer when it comes to the culinary arts.
Think local
Restaurants and everyone involved in cooking are encouraged to use the great local ingredients that Scotland has on offer to create meals that are good for your health, taste great, and are even better news for Scotland’s agriculture industry.
Money where their mouths are
The Scottish government has provided the substantial investment of £500,000 to launch the year’s celebration. The money will be used to fund events that promote Scotland’s food tourism by showing off just what the country can do when it comes to good food and drink. It seems that it’ll be a wise investment if you consider the fact that one in every five pounds spent by tourists in Scotland is spent on food and drink – and there’s great potential for that figure to grow.

Some of the most popular food from Scotland is its seafood. The huge profits that it generates come from exports as well as from the crabs, langoustines and oysters that are enjoyed at home, and it’s certainly worth a try for any tourist.
Haggis on the menu
Just because it’s not the only thing Scotland has to offer, that doesn’t mean that the country’s most famous food is off the menu entirely. Interesting new takes on the dish – think chicken stuffed with haggis – are sure to feature. It’s all about getting creative while keeping the best of the traditional, and that’s what the year is sure to teach locals and tourists alike to do.
