The Healthy Eating Bus takes aim at Scotland’s Young

Eating healthy is always a challenge. Perhaps the problem is that unhealthy food tastes so good, or maybe it is a lack of knowledge and education. In the belief that bad habits are hard to break, and that many bad eating habits first develop when we are young, the Scottish government has decided to launch an initiative to teach children about healthy eating. Not only are they instructing children on what is healthy to eat, but they also teaching sound cooking skills to everyone including parents and teachers. And what better method is there of educating local children than to tour the country in a super bus transformed into the ultimate kitchen.

The so-called cooking bus is on a mission to visit schools and community groups where it will demonstrate techniques and even give away cooking utensils. Of course, they have not specified what brand of utensils are being given out, perhaps it is the WMF Fun Children’s Cutlery 4 pcs set, but at any rate we can be assured they are handing out more than plastic spoons and forks. In addition to all the necessary cooking equipment, the well-supplied bus also comes with a large plasma screen to better educate the audience. While schools and youth are the primary targets, the bus will make detours to visit community groups in particularly at risk areas. Hopefully by teaching young people, their parents and teachers simple, yet healthy, food preparation methods, they will avoid dependency on fast foods and sweets. Scotland’s education secretary, Fiona Hyslop, confirms this wish and says the goal of the bus is to prevent children from developing poor habits at an early age so they can lead a healthier life. Well I’m sure everyone would look forward to a visit from the cooking bus and the novel initiative could very well see success.
