Fight the increasing Food Prices with these Tricks

Our earlier article on how to eat healthy with soaring food prices focused primarily on tips for saving money on fruits and vegetables. Of course fruits and vegetables aren’t the only goods affected by rising prices, as everything in the supermarket, including meat, and dairy products, is getting far more expensive. It is even becoming financially burdensome for the less nutritious among us, and tips on how to save on food costs in general are increasingly important. Thankfully, a few key techniques are guaranteed to offset high food prices, and help you maintain the diet you desire without having to pay exorbitant fees.

The first key step to saving is obviously to minimise waste, of which there is a lot when dealing with food. It might seem like some extra effort, but taking an inventory of everything in the fridge and then using this to coordinate meals and shopping lists, can help save a ton. After all, how many long lost and forgotten pieces of food does your fridge harbour? Or how many times have you purchased something at the supermarket only to discover that you already have a huge supply of it at home? It might even be a good idea to pick up an AceCad DigiMemo A402 graphic tablet, to make writing lists cleaner and easier.  By keeping track of what you plan to cook, eat, and purchase, you can limit all food expenses to only the essentials. Nevertheless, even the best organised and laid out plans do not always succeed, and it is quite possible for you to find yourself with excess groceries and ingredients. Therefore, making a meal purely using any leftover or forgotten ingredients from the fridge every week or so, is a great way clean up and ensure nothing goes to waste. By freezing any vegetables you don’t get the chance to use, you also can also make sure you do get a chance to use them as leftovers without fear of spoiling. Even things which appear to have gone bad, such as stale bread, can often still be used or incorporated into some type of meal. For example, hard and stale bread can be chopped up to make croutons, or used for bread crumbs. Finally, another tip to prevent food from spoiling is to always keep meat in the freezer rather than the fridge. Also be sure to carefully package the meat while doing so, and this will ensure it stays fresh and usable; whereas the meat can quickly become spoiled if kept in the fridge too long. Some of these tips might seem obvious, however, it never hurts to go over the basics, especially with the current out of control food prices.
