Technic LEGO

LEGO Technic bricks and toys are as big a step up from regular LEGO, as LEGO are from DUPLO. In other words, the Technic toys, which are even recommended for children as old as 16, are far more advanced than their standard building block LEGO cousins. In addition to gears, axles, moving chains, and other mechanical parts, Technic models are frequently powered by a small electric motor as well.

Uses moving parts

Technic began from the Expert Builder theme and Technical Sets in the seventies and then officially matured into the Technic franchise by 1984. Although Technic bricks are designed differently than standard LEGO bricks, without the studs, for instance, the main defining feature of the series remains the moving parts. Not just wheels either, but actual gears, pins and beams, all of which typically power some type of mechanical device like a car. Some sets, like the LEGO Technic Pneumatric Truck, even use pneumatic parts, complete with air pumps and cylinders. All these mechanical parts are then often set into motion by a battery powered motor. Recently even, some models have incorporated an IR receiver along with an IR remote control, transforming the LEGO Technic toy into a remote control model in the process.

In many forms

Technic models are some of the most advanced LEGO around. Ranging from Formula One race cars, to helicopters, to even a large NASA space shuttle sized model, all with moving parts, nearly any type of vehicle has a LEGO Technic counterpart. As it stands, construction themed vehicles, such as Excavators, mobile cranes, wheel loaders, and bulldozers, appear to be some of the most popular. But even the less traditional dune buggies, dirt bikes and a Star Wars storm trooper all get shown some Technic love.

Educational

Technic are perfect for any aspiring mechanical engineers. Requiring far more precision and thought than building normal LEGO, Technic are arguably also the most educational as well. Whether you have an interest in motors, or mechanical engineering, Technic prove to be far more than just toys and are instead helpful learning instruments. Already, skilled Technic users have managed to build actual suspensions bridges, as well as propeller planes, all with functioning moving parts, and each requiring a large amount of skill to do so. Only the LEGO Mindstorm series of programmable LEGO robots, which were spawned from LEGO Technic, could be considered more complex.

For pictures and building instructions check out this link www.brickshelf.com Look at the readme icon for more information about the build. For the parts list made by Blakbird. This parts list isn't completely accurate. It is the parts list of my V8 build by Blakbird and he has made some modifications. Parts can be bought on www.bricklink.com, calling Lego-service or via Lego Pick a Brick on shop.lego.com I ust point out that some yellow parts are very difficult to get right now. Unless you own of want to buy set 8457 Technic Power Puller, you can make it in yellow, otherwish you have to build one in red or light gray.
