DUPLO
LEGO are undoubtedly some of the most creative and fun children’s toys ever made, but for the really young ones they can be dangerous. This risk is not to be laughed at whatsoever, as small LEGO pieces present a serious choking hazard for any young ones still in that slobber over everything phase. Of course, ever ingenious LEGO came up with a simple solution to let those 1.5 through 6 to still play with LEGO bricks: they made them large enough so as be incapable of being swallowed, but still not, sadly, slobber or drool-proof.
Duplo mirrors LEGO
Named Duplo and started in 1969, these enlarged LEGO bricks remain one of the oldest LEGO types. Originally Duplo bricks were sold along with normal LEGO pieces, but this soon changed as the over-sized bricks became their own dedicated series. We’ve also seen Duplo rise far above its humble red, blue, yellow or white brick beginnings. Today LEGO Duplo sets come in all sorts of varieties, many modeled after their smaller LEGO cousins. We now have Duplo Airport, Duplo Police Station, Duplo Zoo, Duplo Petrol Station, the list goes on. Even the little LEGO figurines too have their Duplo equivalents. However, these Duplo figurines cannot be disassembled, like LEGO figurines, and therefore cannot be eaten.
Duplo themes
We’ve also seen Duplo branch off into different themes, producing toys based on the Bob the Builder or Thomas & Friends TV programmes, or films like Disney Pixar’s Cars. If your young kids are fans of these shows, then they’ll definitely go crazy over Bob the Builder with his construction companions in Duplo form.
