City LEGO

LEGO City is easily one of the most iconic LEGO franchises and recently even one of the most successful. Next to LEGO Star Wars, the LEGO City series generated the largest revenue among all LEGO themes in 2009, according to recent statistics from LEGO. Of course, whilst LEGO Star Wars has only been around for a little more than a decade, the history of the LEGO City model line dates all the way back to the late sixties. LEGO City remains proof that LEGO’s classic lines continue to do as well as its new themes, like LEGO Harry Potter or Star Wars.

Heart and soul of LEGO

In many ways the so-called LEGO City franchise is the heart and soul of the LEGO toys. Hardly a year has gone by since the first LEGO City set was debuted, that we have not seen a brand new LEGO City model set introduced. The City theme name might have undergone many changes, including Legoland, Lego World City and Lego Town, but many of the core sets and environments remained the same. We are of course talking about the age-less pillars that include the LEGO Airport, LEGO Police Station, hospital, firefighter station, harbor sets and the like.

Police, Fire Station and more

Model sets like the Police Heliport first introduced all the way back in 1972 have undergone many changes, but are still available today in numerous variants, such as the popular LEGO City Police Headquarters. Other major contemporary LEGO City hits include the LEGO City Fire Station, LEGO City Harbor, and of course the LEGO City Airport. These large model sets are also accompanied by plenty of accessories, including LEGO City passenger airplanes, police motorcycles, fire trucks and police cars. In fact, with all the LEGO City sets currently available, it’s completely possible for your child to construct an entire city out of LEGO bricks and live up to the theme’s namesake.

Old-school LEGO models

The LEGO City series represents old-school LEGO sets, in that many of them are quite similar to the same LEGO toys being sold 20 to 30 years ago. For any parents who’d like their kids to play with the same LEGO bricks they played with when they were kids, LEGO City is the answer. According to LEGO, children enter a stage of building development beginning at age seven and LEGO City toys can help them unlock their full creative potential.
