Boiler Scrappage Scheme: Details on getting a government subsidy to upgrade your boiler

Find out what you can do to qualify for the scheme.

Boilers are an integral part of every household, especially in this chilly winter season when a continuous supply of hot water in different parts of the house is a must. Although they are an effective means of getting a constant hot water supply, there are a number of demerits associated with boilers, such as energy cost and pollution. With carbon emission rules becoming stricter day by day, countries all over the world are making continuous efforts in every possible way to reduce their amount of carbon emission. One of the important aspects in this concern is the emission of green house pollutants from domestic boilers which is quite high in case of G-rated models. In order to minimize this source of carbon emission, government of UK has come up with the boiler scrappage scheme. It will supposedly help households in buying new energy-efficient boilers and save money on energy cost. In addition to reducing the country’s carbon footprint, this scheme will also boost the boiler industry of the country and thus help with economic growth.

How to qualify and more details

Under the boiler scrappage scheme, citizens of the country will receive a government discount of some percent on the cost of installing and purchasing a new boiler, but there will certainly be some conditions applicable to it. A total of only about 125,000 households can apply for a rebate under the boiler scrappage scheme and thus people are assuming that this will be decided on a first come, first serve basis. Moreover, the discount voucher will be applicable only to those wanting to replace their G-rated boilers or worse than that. Although, with all these requirements and a lot more, the percentage of people who can benefit from this scheme narrows down quite a bit, the boiler scrappage scheme is still considered to help a lot of people in replacing their old and inefficient central heating boilers with some brand new models.

  2. Mrs Wheller,

It seems the scheme is over, but you might still qualify for certain grants that you can search for from this official database: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Easy-ways-to-stop-wasting-energy/Energy-saving-grants-and-offers/Grants-and-Discounts-Database

Alternatively, you might want to follow this link to buy a new boiler.
