Do you get stressed, frustrated and irritated easily and regularly? Simply by changing your diet you can help your body to reduce its high stress levels. Certain delicious foods, like walnuts and turkey, can help your body to combat that uneasy feeling of stress. If you ever feel yourself getting heated and stressed out simply munch on some of the following foods to put your body and mind at ease once again.

Fruits and vegetables

Certain fruits and vegetables can help to combat stress. Vitamin C found in oranges helps to restore blood pressure while boosting the immune system. Spinach also contains some vitamin C but it is a great source of magnesium which helps to prevent migraines and fatigue or stress headaches. Your body may crave carbohydrates when under stress and sweet potato is great to eat because it contains beta-carotene vitamins that help your body to process these carbohydrates.

Comfort food

When we start to feel stressed many of us resort to eating comfort foods like sweets, cakes and take-away foods. These foods will not help to combat your stress because they have little, if any, nutritional content and so your body will still end up craving something else leaving you feeling even more tired and depressed. Try eating something like salmon that contains omega-3 fatty acids which help in reducing the levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, in the body.

Other things to do

While eating certain foods can help when it comes to combating stress, drinking water also plays a role. Dehydration causes your body to become stressed so insure you drink a lot of water to keep your nerves under control. Eating small meals regularly throughout the day will also help to keep your sugar levels regular resulting in improved concentration and less stress. Exercising regularly at the gym or on home-exercise equipment will also help to reduce physical and mental stress and depression.
