A kiss a day…

Everybody loves a good kiss – or even better, a great kiss – every now and then. Kissing makes us feel good about ourselves, and improves the state of body, mind, and quite possibly even soul. There’s more to a kiss than you might think, though. Kissing comes with a range of benefits, not least of which is burning calories. Here’s the science behind the kiss.

The benefits of a good kiss

There’s a reason a good snog makes us feel good. When we kiss, the body releases endorphins, the same feel-good chemicals released by exercise. A passionate kiss relieves stress and helps us feel more positive, in general. A good kiss uses 30 muscles in your face, similar to the muscles used while smiling, which helps to alleviate tension and prevents the sagging that comes with ageing. When kissing you breathe deeper and close your eyes, which also helps the body to loosen up and relax.

A kiss a day keeps the doctor away

According to the British Dental Association’s Dental Advisor, Dr. Peter Gorden, a kiss increases saliva production in the mouth, which helps to combat plaque build up. A French kiss is also said to burn up to 26 calories per minute and a long kiss stimulates your metabolism to work harder.

Make time – to make out

So, make time to make out. Spending some quality kissing time with your partner is good for both of you on many levels. Just remember to keep your lips kissable with a good lip balm or lipstick, and you’re set to go.
