By now most of us know that dark chocolate has health benefits, but new research shows that it might even be able to protect against strokes. It’s always good news when something this delicious is good for you, so find out how dark chocolate can help your health.
New research
A new study shows that dark chocolate is able to protect the brain from the danger of damage after a stroke. In tests conducted on mice, researchers at John Hopkins University found that a compound in dark chocolate gave a more positive effect than current stroke medication when blood flow to the brain is cut off. Staying safe from a stroke is obviously not just about eating chocolate, though. Keeping fit and maintaining a healthy diet will significantly decrease your risk of having a stroke.

Another recent study found that the danger of liver disease is lessened in people who consume a small amount of dark chocolate. Dark chocolate seems to have a positive effect on both blood vessels and blood pressure in the liver, making it a helpful food for sufferers of cirrhosis. It all sounds too good to be true, but if the doctors are saying that dark chocolate is good for you, there seems little reason to argue.
What else can it do?
Dark chocolate is the better chocolate choice because it contains less fat and sugar than milk chocolate, and because it’s so high in antioxidants. Dark chocolate is also good for your skin and hair, making it about the only sweet that’ll actually improve the way you look. A small amount of dark chocolate is probably just about the best way to satisfy your sweet tooth, so feel free to keep some in the fridge to indulge now and then without feeling guilty.
