Karl Lagerfeld has added to his diverse range of projects by getting involved with Coke Light to design the packaging for a limited edition bottle. The bottle by Karl Lagerfeld isn’t the first designed by a celebrity for Diet Coke, and some might call this kind of collector’s item packaging frivolous, but it is a very good-looking bottle, which is sure to be tempting to many fans of Lagerfeld or the Coke brand. The bottle’s packaging is pink, black and white, and features – yes – Lagerfeld’s own silhouette.
What does it look like?
The classic Coke bottle shape remains, in white, and the bottle is decorated with a black silhouette of Lagerfeld – signature suit and ponytail included, of course, and the iconic Coca-Cola Light typeface. The word ‘Light’ is printed on the silhouette and its shade of hot pink matches the colour of the bottle top. As is the case with limited edition Evian water by Paul Smith, the bottle wouldn’t look the same without its cap, so opening it up and drinking its contents probably isn’t the best option.
The Lagerfeld Diet

Karl Lagerfeld famously lost around 90 pounds in 2001 by using a diet that is reported to have involved a lot of Coke Light. While reports of what the diet really consisted of range from the mildly insensible to the bizarre – steamed vegetables seem like a healthy idea, horse meat probably less so – it seems clear that it worked for him. A quote by Karl Lagerfeld on Pagesix.com said that, ‘I think that fashion is the healthiest motivation for losing weight,’ and while some might want to debate that statement, it’s interesting to see the way in which Lagerfeld has managed to combine diet and fashion in his Coke Light project.
The ad campaign
In glamorous Lagerfeld style, the ad campaign for the limited edition product featured Baptiste Giacobini and Coca Rocha. Giacobini holds a silver tray, on which one of the designer bottles by Karl Lagerfeld can be seen, and Rocha drinks what can only be assumed to be Coca-Cola Light through a straw from a Lalique crystal goblet. The Coca-Coca Light logo and Lagerfeld’s signature feature prominently, too.
Coca-Cola limited editions

Limited editions are nothing new for the Coca-Cola company. Coke cans have been released to celebrate and commemorate such noteworthy events as the Olympics, the Winter Games, and anniversary events like Selfridges’ 100th birthday. The company has even released limited edition flavours, too. Now, celebrities are getting in on the action: Nathalie Rykiel designed a limited edition Coca-Cola Light bottle, too.
How do I get hold of it?
The bad news is that the limited edition Coke Light bottles aren’t available outside of France. If you’re near Galleries Lafayette or Collette, however, you’ll be able to purchase the bottle either alone or as part of a special boxed set that includes a matching bottle opener. The set costs €47 (around £42), while the bottle alone is considerably more affordable. Is the price worth it? Well, that all depends on how much you love fashion – and Coke Light.
