With increasing concern about water safety, a lot of people are thinking twice about drinking the water that comes out of their taps. With the expense of bottled water, though, the best option is often to take care of the problem yourself by using a water filter to create clean, safe water for you and your family. In various scares, it’s been reported that the water that comes out of taps might contain disease-causing germs and needs to be purified to remove these and ensure that we’re drinking safe water. While this might be the case, there’s another danger that shouldn’t go unnoticed: the chlorine present in tap water – and put there for the safety of those drinking it – can actually be very harmful to your health.

Choosing a filter

To start getting safe water at home with a water filter, you’ll need to choose a filter that’s right for your needs. Choose your water filter based on convenience, the amount of space you have available for the filter in your kitchen, and your budget. Jug filters are inexpensive and very easy to use – you just pour the water into a compartment of the jug, and allow it to move through a filtering cartridge to the rest of the jug. You can place the jug in your fridge, and have cool water to drink whenever you need it.
Another option is water filters which can be fitted directly to your tap. These are slightly more expensive, and you won’t have your safe water cooled for you, but you might find it a lot more convenient. If, for instance, you want to use a water filter to make the ice you put in your drinks, you won’t have to go through the process of putting the water into the filter jug before you pour it into the ice tray. If you’re buying any filter other than a tap filter, you’ll want to consider its capacity – a larger jug might be more convenient for a large family, while it could also be more difficult to manage and be more likely to cause spillages.
