Just because you’re ageing doesn’t mean to say that you have to experience a lowering of your energy levels. Even if there is a decrease in muscle bulk and bone loss, a slowing of the metabolic rate and cell production, if you follow a few simple measures you can keep your energy levels high. Exercise, not smoking and a good diet are always recommended, no matter what a person’s age. For more simple pointers on maintaining your energy, read on.
How to keep your energy levels up
Of course, you can’t expect to feel as vigorous and energetic as you did when you were a teenager but there is lots you can do, even at a ripe old age, to slow down the ageing process. Exercise is imperative, and if you’ve been constant about it through your life, so much the better. Don’t overdo things, though. Exercise regularly and in a sensible way.
Eating a well-balanced nutritious diet is also extremely important. As with exercise, the sooner you start the better. Everybody knows to do this but somehow we don’t always pay enough attention to our fruits and vegetables, or our nuts, grains, pulses and seeds. To feel active, you have to feed your body appropriately, especially to get the essential iron, calcium and antioxidants that your body needs.
While some research proves that red wine is healthy, excessive alcohol can produce free radicals, as can smoking. Drink in moderation but whatever you do, quit smoking. Moderation also applies to body weight: strive for a weight that is not too heavy and not too light.
Have checkups and stay happy
To keep your energy levels up, you need to keep your body in top form. Going for regular checkups will help to identify problems early, which gives you time to something about them. Check things like your blood pressure and cholesterol levels regularly and have a thorough body checkup once a year.
Be sure to stay upbeat and maintain a balanced outlook, no matter what the circumstances. When you’re enjoying your life, you’re much more motivated to look after the gift of your body.
