Everyone separates their white and dark laundry, but with colours it’s a little more difficult. Often the bright vibrant red, blue, green etc. all get thrown in together, bleeding colours in every which direction, with the end result being dull clothes that have lost their sheen. A new solution from the cleaning experts at Dr. Beckmann, however, purports to fix this problem by ‘capturing’ the colours and preventing them from mixing with other clothes.

Stops the colour bleeding

In fact, the so-called Dr Beckmann Colour & Dirt Collector is said to collect dirt as well as any colours bleeding from the fabric. It’s not an actual contraption either, but rather a simple thin sheet that you toss into the washing machine along with your laundry. Everything else you should do as normal, simply add detergent and start the wash. Then the thin piece of cloth will soak up any excess colour or dirt on its own. For the best part, it’s actually re-usable as well, you don’t even have to dry it out, just leave it in the washer for the next load. Supposedly it should maintain effectiveness for up to 30 laundry loads, although in the demo video below we only seeing it being used once.

The entire claim might sound a little far fetched, which is why it’s fortunate a demonstrative video (see below) from How Clean is Your House? star Kim Woodburn proves that it actually does work. So, is this the end of separating clothes by colour and the beginning of having your clothes look as bright as the day you purchased them? Probably not quite, but the simple Dr Beckmann Colour Collector cloth could easily become as commonplace as fabric softener for keeping our laundry looking and feeling its best.
