Cleaning a TV is part of owning one. Dust and dirt accumulation can harm the screen and the parts inside. LCD and Plasma TVs acquire different cleaning methods, mainly in terms of the liquid you use. Getting a dishcloth and wiping away the dust may be the easy way to do things, but most times the dust is just being pushed into the corners. To get rid of the dirt effectively, you’re going to need some TV cleaning products.

LCD cleaning

LCD TVs are sensitive and should be cleaned carefully. A microfibre cloth is the ideal material to use and doesn’t harm the screen like paper products which can scratch the display. The Smart AM 75ml LCD screen cleaner is a safe product which gently traps grease and finger print particles. It removes dust and kills germs, and the highly water-based solution leaves the screen unharmed.

The first thing to do is wipe the screen with the microfibre cloth, then spray the screen and wipe it dry immediately. That’s all it takes to clean your LCD TV. The Smart AM screen cleaner costs ₤7.99, including the cloth.

Plasma cleaning

Plasma TVs aren’t a fan of liquid. That’s why wiping them over with a microfibre cloth is normally the best form of TV cleaning for them. But sometimes stubborn fingerprints and grime spots don’t want to come off and end up smudging. Avoid heavy cleaning agents because they could remove that special coating on the TV screen.

Turn the TV off and let it cool down for a while before cleaning it. Plasma TVs use a lot of power, making the screen hot. The PixelProtector 60ml Plasma screen cleaner effectively gets rid of dust and with the anti-static formula it keeps dust away. Wipe the screen with the cloth, then spray the formula into the cloth and give the screen a careful wipe, dry the screen display and your done. The PixelProtector is priced at ₤9.99.

A TV cleaning mitt is an ideal way to gently clean your screen. It has a soft, blue microfibre side which wipes away marks, and a wooly, grey side which dries and attracts leftover dust particles. The Cleansafe spray and small pad is a great two-in-one product. It’s got 5mm of soft foam which works as a buffer, keeping the pressure applied equal and harmless. The velvet pad is antistatic, and is safe for all coated and non-coated displays.

Keeping it clean

It’s difficult to keep your screen clean, as dust will always be attracted to the static display. The best way to keep it under control is to give the TV a wipe down once a week. Using TV cleaning products is essential to prolong the quality of your TV viewing.
