LG steam washing machines reduce allergies and energy consumption

So, what’s all the hype about steam washing machines? According to LG`s research and development team , the use of steam – which can reach temperatures over 200 degrees Fahrenheit – is efficient at killing germs, sanitising and de-wrinkling garments, carpets and fabrics.

Anti-allergies

The technology is useful not only for hygienic purposes, but is also particularly helpful for aiding those with allergy problems. LG steam washers claim to eliminate up to 99.8% of pet dander, dust mites, and other common allergens, according to the brand’s website. Several LG Washing Machines have received the British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval for their allergen-reducing properties. Look for the logo beside each product.

How do steam washing machines work?

Steam washers traditionally have the same basic functionality as regular washing machines, with the additional option to include steam in your washing cycle, or use steam alone to freshen up a load – nice for towels or sheets that are clean, but have been sitting in the cupboard for a while.

How the steam works is surprisingly simple, according to LG’s website . ‘Steam molecules are smaller, hotter, and more active than water, which means they get between fibres and dissolve dirt, remove odours, and eliminate allergens. Steam also takes less time to do a better job because it reaches higher temperatures more quickly.’

Eco-friendly

Another major perk of steam washing machines is that they use less water and energy than traditional machines. LG’s Steam Direct Drive washing machines  have an extra-large capacity, allowing you to do more washing in fewer loads. In addition, LG claims that steam technology reduces water and energy use – up to 51% in electricity consumption and a 44% reduction in water consumption, compared to standard washers, says the company’s official website. This surpasses the Energy Saving Trust’s recommended standards for energy-efficient consumer products.

Misconception

One common misconception is that with a steam washer you’re able to pull your garment out of the wash and put it on immediately. To do this requires a steam dryer – a completely different appliance.
