If you’re planning to sell your house, consider giving it a spring-clean and fixing up those niggly little things that need some work before you put it on show. To make it more inviting to potential buyers, you could also make your kitchen looks warm and inviting. Use plants to bring a feeling of freshness to strategic areas and let in the light. As for the exterior of the house, first impressions do count so be sure to mow the lawn and see to the garden.
Make space while you clean and repair
A quick sale may not be a guarantee the way things are at the moment in the property market. All the more reason to put in some effort to get the most you can for your home. Start by making a list of what needs doing. This could include cleaning the house from top to toe including the curtains, carpets and furniture.
To create a sense of space for show day, move unwanted, bulky or unused items into storage. Clean out all your cupboards and repack them neatly, once again removing any unused items so that the cupboards appear to be more spacious. Pay the same attention to the garage, clearing out and cleaning as you go.
Scrub it up
Scrub all the kitchen surfaces including the oven so that everything shines. Make sure the fridge has been cleared and cleaned too. A welcoming kitchen is a big sales factor so it’s worth the extra effort. Fix any leaking taps or pipes in the kitchen and elsewhere.
Let in the light
Let in the light by opening curtains and blinds and make sure that the windows are clean. If your house is relatively dark, introduce some strategically placed mirrors to reflect more light into the space.
Last touches
Take a walk around the house, checking things like the state of the garden and garden furniture, fence, paintwork, woodwork and wirework. Give the front door a once-over and check that the doorbell works. Polish the front door handles and give the door a fresh coat of paint or varnish if necessary.
Here’s wishing you every success for your show day.
