Are you constantly on the lookout for embarrassing sweat marks under your arms or checking yourself for an unpleasant odour? If you are the type of person who sweats a lot regardless of the weather or your daily activities, you will want to follow some tips to stay dry, sweat-free and smelling good this coming summer. There are a number of things you can do to minimize sweating, some more drastic than others.

Your body

If you’re overweight you will sweat more than the average person so trying to shed a couple of those extra pounds could help your sweating to decrease. By showering and bathing regularly you help to eliminate bacteria that cause body odour, particularly if you use an anti-bacterial soap. Excessive body hair also helps to trap these bacteria making that body odour stronger and longer lasting.

Dress appropriately

In order to stay dry you will want to dress appropriately for the weather. Although it may sound odd, dressing in layers is actually great for people who sweat a lot as this allows you to peel off layers as you need to and even the possibility of changing if one layer has visible sweat marks. Consider wearing a white t-shirt underneath any clothing to act as a barrier to avoid sweat stains on your clothes and also wear natural fibers as they allow air to circulate to your body.

Hyperthyroidism

If nothing seems to help your excessive sweating you will want to see your doctor as you might have hyperthyroidism. This condition occurs when there are too many thyroid hormones circulating in the body. Excessive sweating is one of the symptoms of an overactive thyroid gland along with fatigue, nervousness and tremours. If untreated, hyperthyroidism can be life-threatening as it causes an irregular heartbeat coupled with severe chest pains.
