Winter Lawn Care Tips: Your Garden still Requires a Fair Amount of Attention
Winter is a time when you need to pay extra attention to your lawn so that it can survive the spine chilling temperatures. Snowfall can suffocate the turf of your lawn hence you should follow various tips in order to protect your lawn in the winter season. Some of the most important tips include:
- Remove all sorts of fallen leaves from your lawn because if they are left through out the winter season it can smother the grass underneath. You should collect all of them and use them for mulching or composting later in the year.
- The cutting height of the lawn mower should be lowered but gradually. You should gradually lower the cutting height (different lawnmowers have different cutting heights, so adjust accordingly), so that the tender young grass is shaved off because it is not capable of withstanding the cold weather. Don’t lower the cutting height at one go because it can damage the upper turf.
- Make sure that there is no weed growth on your lawn. Weeds can damage the grass as they grow much faster than grass in the winter season.
- Aerating is the lawn is a great idea because it will not allow any sought of thatch to grow. It will also help your lawn to grow faster and healthier in the upcoming spring season.
