Most vegetables require very little tending as they are pretty much self-sufficient. With enough water and a decent spot in the garden, anyone can have their own little vegetable patch. From here you can supply your kitchen with all sorts of nourishing produce, making cooking both a pleasure and an achievement.

Most vegetables grow well in moist but also sunlit conditions. Keep your eyes peeled for various seeds, bulbs and sprouts you can use to plant in your garden.

Finding the right spot

When planning your vegetable garden, it’s a good idea to find a spot in your garden which receives a lot of sunlight during the day. Also, the soil you are going to be planting in should be rich in nutrients. It should have a slightly damp texture and it should be a place where other plants grow well. Good potting soil can be bought at any of your local nurseries.

Once you have removed any weeds or other plants from where you wish to grow your veggies you can begin tossing the soil as to make it good for planting. Some of the easiest veggies to grow are carrots, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, radishes and strawberries. You can simply buy seed packs from a nursery or you can plant the root ends of these vegetables into the ground.

Planting your seeds or sprouts

Using compost is always good for your garden. When digging a trench in which to place your seeds or sprouts, you can layer the bottom of the hole with compost. This will become a food source for your plants and will help them grow healthy and strong.

Remember when planting your seeds that certain plants need more space. Carrots and potatoes can be planted quite close to each other while beans and radishes flower from larger leafy plants. Make rows in which you can space out evenly each type of vegetable you want to grow.

Timing your growing

Each vegetable has a different growing time so planting your crops should be done at the right time if you want to harvest all at once. Plan out your garden beforehand and when you have planted, water your crops regularly. In a few months you should have an amazing harvest of vegetables, fresh as can be and grown by you.
