While most gardeners don’t need much convincing that a leaf blower and vacuum is an extremely useful gardening tool to have, many do need a little help learning how to use it correctly. The good news is that it’s really not that difficult or complicated. Read on to learn how to get the most out of your leaf blower and vacuum to make cleaning up any garden quicker and easier.
Have a plan
Before you start blowing or vacuuming leaves, work out a system – where in the garden you’ll begin, where you’ll end, and where you’re blowing the leaves to. The best option is to have a container or tarpaulin ready in a corner of your garden to hold leaves ready for composting.
Quantity, not quality
The point of blowing leaves is that you’re able to round up an impressive quantity of leaves at one time. Focus on getting most of your leaves into one place, rather than trying to remove every last one from your lawn – you’ll just end up frustrated if you try to do this, and will probably also manage to blow away many of the leaves you’ve already gathered. For the odd stray leaf, keep your rake handy.
Getting the edge
If you’ve invested in a leaf blower with bag, you’ll find it especially useful in vacuum mode for tidying up hard to reach corners of your garden. Spaces near to fences, at the base of walls and in dips in your garden’s landscape will trap leaves easily and make them difficult to remove with a rake or the blowing setting of your leaf blower and vacuum, so once you’re done with your main clean-up you’ll want to switch vacuum mode and trap those difficult-to-reach leaves in a bag. With that done, your garden will be looking tidy and at its best.
