The One Pot pledge is an initiative to start people growing their own food – even if they have little space to do it, and no experience. Those who believe that growing vegetables means that you need a vegetable garden outdoors have a lot to learn – all that’s needed is a bit of soil in a small pot and you’re ready to grow your own greens. Why do it? It’s good for the environment, you’ll be able to enjoy vegetables that are healthier than the kind that aren’t organic, and you might just have some fun in the process.
Doing it for the kids
Starting a small vegetable garden indoors is a great way to teach kids to garden organic. It’ll teach them a lot about plants in a way that they’re sure to love. Waiting for those seeds to sprout into plants might be frustrating for impatient little gardeners, but they’ll see the value of waiting for something you’ve invested time in when their food appears. Who knows? They may even be more enthusiastic about eating their vegetables if they’ve grown them themselves.

The organisers of the event – Garden Organic – are aiming to get 300,000 people involved in the gardening initiative. For those who can’t be easily persuaded that gardening is enjoyable and that they might have fun getting involved, there’s the added incentive of discounts on gardening products when you sign up to take the pledge.
All you need to get growing are a few small gardening tools – including your pot, of course – and some soil and seedlings. You’ll be a seasoned vegetable gardener in no time, and who knows where that might lead?
