The Significance of Flowers in Christmas

Among Christmas decorations, Flowers and wreaths symbolise God’s mercy and eternity, while the green boughs represent everlasting life and god’s everlasting love. And, as we all know, there cannot be a Christmas without a Christmas tree which symbolises life, goodwill, unity and light.

As we all know that Christmas is a winter festival which mainly symbolizes celebrating life and mankind. Green is a colour of spring, which brings life; therefore, this colour is used in the decoration to indicate that spring will return. It symbolises longevity, triumph and immortality. It is believed that this colour brings joy, tranquility and love.

Rose, which is also called the winter or snow rose, is considered a true Christmas flower. It is associated with the birth of Jesus Christ and a poor shepherd named Madelon. Holly is one of the most important Christmas flowers, and it symbolises good luck and masculinity. People decorate their houses with holly flowers, as it is believed to scare away all the evil spirits and witches, while defending the house from lightning and thunder. People also resolve their fights or disputes under the holly tree.

Ivy is one flower which is used on the outside of the building for decoration and represents mortality. It symbolises 3 important facts, namely, clinging, thriving in the shade, and evergreen. Unlike inanimate objects, flowers and plants have more powerful symoblism and a larger effect, because they are alive. If you happen to possess an LCD television, such as the Toshiba 40XF355D, with a life-like screen resolution, then displaying Christmas trees and flowers on the screen might achieve the same effect. Nevertheless, only a real life Christmas tree can truly symbolise and convey the renewal of life at the time of death, darkness and cold in winter .
