Water Saving Tips

It may seem like a very trivial activity but saving water can actually be quite beneficial to you and even to the planet as a whole given that only 2.5% of the whole of earth’s water is fresh water and only about one third of that is available to humans because the rest of it is in the form of polar ice caps. Hence it is our civic duty to save water, plus you can really cut down on your water costs with these. You can basically save the water in two ways: in the house and in the garden.

At home first you should check for leaks in pipes or taps. This can really reduce a lot of domestic hassle as well as save lots of unnecessarily wasted water. Use efficient methods of cooking or steaming to cook your food like tight pressure cookers etc. Thaw your frozen foods instead of holding them under running water. Wait until your dishwasher or washing machine is up to full load and only then use it. One tip which is universal is that before you perform any of your routine tasks in the sink, just plug it and use as little running water as possible.

If you have a pool, then keep the water level till half of the skimmer opening. Cover your pool when not in use to prevent evaporation as well as to keep it clean so you don’t have to replace it. For the garden use a drip irrigation system instead of the regular watering system. Don’t cut your lawn too much. Use natural fertilizers and compost as they absorb moisture. When you wash your car, try and do it in the lawn.

Even if you just follow these simple tips you will see a considerable reduction in your water consumption.
