If you are in the process of living a ‘greener’, more environmentally friendly life, you have probably made the switch to beauty and body care products that are made entirely with natural and organic ingredients. These products most probably bear the Beauty Without Cruelty logo and are perhaps accredited by a fair trade organisation. Have you thought about taking it a step further and making your own skin care products? You can start with a range of delicious face masks, using fresh, organic produce.
Tasty and nutritious
If you are tempted to taste these concoctions because they smell so delicious, you can be sure that there will be no side effects. They are as good for you used on the inside as they are on the outside.
The basic ingredients necessary for these delicious face masks include honey, yoghurt, fresh fruit, eggs, distilled water and powdered almonds or oatmeal. You will be glad to know that there is a yummy option available no matter what your skin type is. Applied once a week, any of these masks will leave your skin looking and feeling healthier.
Normal skin
Honey is a favourite ingredient for normal skin face masks. Apply a face cloth dipped in warm water on your face and neck, then smear some honey and leave it for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse with first warm water then cool water. You will have a soft, glowing complexion instantly.
A mask made with honey, oats, ground almonds and plain organic yoghurt is another favourite. You can leave it on for about five minutes before rinsing with warm water. Or try mixing one tablespoon of honey, one egg yolk, half a teaspoon of almond oil and a tablespoon of yoghurt. Leave for five minutes and wash off with warm water.
Normal to dry skin
If you have normal to dry skin, you will love this one. Mix a third of a cup of organic cocoa, three teaspoons of thick organic cream, a third of a cup of ripe papaya, a quarter cup of honey and three teaspoons of oatmeal powder, in a blender. Apply to your face and leave on for about 10 minutes before washing off with warm water.
Or mash five ripe strawberries and stir into one tablespoon of plain organic yoghurt. Add a teaspoon of oatmeal and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix well and apply for about 30 minutes. Wash off with cool water mixed with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.
Dry skin
Dry skin responds well to a mix of lightly whipped egg white and a few drops of coconut, almond or olive oil. Apply, let it dry and rinse off with cool water.
There are many more recipes for face masks to prevent wrinkles, for oily skin, to tighten pores and to prevent break-outs. After a few weeks of regular use, you will see a difference.
